According to these articles on TechWeb, ZDNet and CircuiTree, analyst firm Gartner is predicting that PC sales will slow dramatically after next year, and that as a result, three of the top 10 PC manufacturers will exit the market by 2007. Only Dell has consistently been profitable for the past few years, and the PC divisions of HP and IBM may be spun off if they don't succeed in achieving higher margins. If major US vendors drop out, the benefactors will be local vendors in fast-growing international markets such as China, where native suppliers such as Lenovo may be able to extend their strong local-market standing and low-cost operating models into a global presence.
