Brendan Boner writes "Here is a japanese tool called Madotate that performs similar to the prosposed Microsoft Task Gallery to be included in longhorn.
I have been using it for a week and suprisingly for a gui tool, have not got bored with it. The files and setup is in nihongo, but a translation of the setting file is available here

The source code. is also available, although it is over a year old". Microsoft's TaskGallery is a research prototype 3D user interface that expands the desktop into an entire office with an unlimited number of desktops. The screen becomes a long gallery with paintings on the walls that represent different tasks, and the user moves quickly and easily from one to another with a simple series of mouse and keyboard commands. Similarly, Madotate adds a button to the standard set of buttons for minimizing, maximizing, and closing windows. The new button causes the window to minimize into a 3D desktop space.
