Maps With A Sense Of Time
posted by Editor on Wednesday June 11, @05:04PM
Geographic Interfaces This article from the BBC News describes the Amble Time project at the Media Lab Europe, which has developed a system that combines digital maps with information about walking speeds and time constraints. The software draws a bubble around the user's current location, showing everywhere that the user can walk to within a specified amount of time. The bubble is not a perfect circle, since the software considers street patterns and other physical features of the location to determine the accessible locations (see picture). When combined with background information about cities, the system could help users select train schedules or restaurants based on their current location.

Will position service be popular in near future? (Score:0)
by Anonymous Coward on Wednesday June 11, @09:03PM EST (#1)
Recently I have discussed a lot with one of my friends on the idea of developing GIS application on mobile phone in China. We have thought out many good ideas. However, the problem is it seems position sevice will not be popular here in the near future. Can anybody tell me what is the situation in USA or Europe? Thanks.
