Ambient Devices Shipping First Product
posted by Editor on Monday February 03, @08:07PM
Advanced Peripherals Ambient Devices has developed an ambient computing platform that can be used to embed information in a variety of devices such as watches, pens, shoes, key fobs, clothing, furniture, etc. Ambient computing devices are designed to shift information from the center of a user's attention to the fringes, allowing people to deal with information at a pace and at a moment they are comfortable with, rather than contending with the information overflow that is sometimes inherent in traditional computing devices. The company is now shipping its first product: Ambient Orb, a softball-sized sphere that continuously changes color based on a configurable data stream. The default configuration shows the Dow Jones stock market average, glowing more green or red to indicate market movement up or down, or yellow when the market is calm. It can also be customized to a set of free channels, such as other market indices, or weather in select cities. Optionally, users can upgrade to access more premium channels, such as updates on their own stock portfolio.
