This article in the Wall Street Journal reviews MindManager, a mind-mapping tool developed by MindJet. MindManager enables "visual thinking" by allowing users to create documents that look like spider webs, with central ideas at the center, and branches that radiate outward representing subtopics (see screenshot). Users fine-tune their ideas by addding branches, which are labeled with text and graphics, and can be linked or related to one another. The reviewer concludes that if you are a purely linear thinker, lists are probably better than mind maps, and some projects or tasks are too simple to justify using MindManager. However, it could be useful for helping to make decisions that require evaluating a complicated set of options.
