Wearable Computer Market Poised For Takeoff
posted by Editor on Friday September 13, @02:52PM
Wearable Computer Interfaces This article on ZDNet talks about a new report predicting the wearable computer market will grow at more than 50% a year, reaching more than $500 million by 2006. The report claims these figures could be conservative if innovations such as building computers into clothing fabric become successful. The article highlights some emerging wearable systems, such as Charmed Technology's Transmeta-based CharmIT, and the Fossil watch company's Wrist PDA. The executive summary (PDF) of the report can be downloaded for free, which provides a good segmentation of the wearable computer space, including data-collection applications, PC-centric applications (i.e. maintenance, information dissemination, transactions), PDA-centric applications, Internet-centric applications, and bio-monitoring functions.
