Display Made Of Fog
posted by Editor on Friday June 21, @01:09PM
Advanced Peripherals The Walk Through Virtual Environment (WAVE) is a low-cost, high-quality flat projection surface made of fog. The device uses a blower to form a non-turbulent, laminar airflow, into which fog screen particles are injected. Images can then be either rear- or front-projected onto the fog screen (see picture). The prototype is constructed with honeycomb paper as a low-cost laminar airflow generator, and liquid nitrogen is used to form a very dense and white fog with warm water. If the mean diameter of fog droplets is small, this so-called dry fog does not wet clothes or harm equipment and appears dry to the touch. Here is a paper (DOC) describing the construction of the device, and some possible applications.
