Microsoft Winning Major Transportation Companies With Its Handheld Operating Systems
posted by Editor on Wednesday April 17, @01:59PM
Information Appliance Interfaces This article in ComputerWorld reports that United Parcel Service has signed a major contract for a next-generation handheld computer and wireless communicator for its drivers based on Microsoft's Windows CE operating system. Last month, FedEx announced that it had selected Microsoft's Pocket PC operating system for its next-generation Bluetooth-based mobile scanner and package-tracking device called PowerPad. These wins are being portrayed as examples of how Microsoft could beat Palm in enterprise environments despite Palm's popularity with consumers, because Pocket PC and Windows CE are perceived to be more tightly coupled with the Windows desktops that predominate in corporate IT environments.
