The MIT Wearable Computing Web Page has a timeline that shows the historic evolution of wearable computers. It shows development beginning with the invention of eyeglasses in the 13th century and mentions early visions for augmenting senses with machines long before computers appeared. Early instances of wearable peripherals such as head-mounted displays and chorded keyboards appeared in the 1960's. The first instance of a wearable microcomputer appears to have involved inserting a Motorola 6502 in a shoe so that it could be used to beat casinos in Las Vegas. The first effort to produce a more tradititional wearable computers is credited to Steve Mann, who has himself written a more detailed historical account of recent wearable computing developments.
