Wireless 3D Gesture Input
posted by Editor on Wednesday October 24, @11:28AM
Gesture Interfaces Jestertek has developed a technology called JestPoint that allows the use of gestures to issue commands and control content wirelessly, meaning that no peripheral is involved - users simply perform the gesture in front of a display. The system uses stereo cameras that are mounted over the display to scan the user's motions, and then applies vision processing to determine what action to perform. It is capable of X, Y and Z (depth) axis control, which allows users to grab a 3D display object and rotate it or fly through space with a wave of their hands. JestPoint is an offshoot of interactive technology that JesterTek has developed over the past 12 years for museums, science centers and the entertainment industry. The company says it has installed more than 400 such interactive systems around the world.

    That's pretty nifty (Score:1)

Hey, that's pretty nifty. I wonder how long until they can translate hand rotations, grabs, etc. One drawback is the orientation, you have to follow the mouse because where you point is not exactly where the cursor is it is. You could create a nice 3D boxing game that really give you a workout :)
