Mouse Gestures in Mozilla
posted by Editor on Thursday September 27, @09:15PM
Gesture Interfaces AndyEd writes "I've aggregated some community contributions and made mouse gestures available in Mozilla.

Mouse gestures allow you to execute commands with drag operations, potentially increasing efficiency. To go back, just drag left, and wipe the offending page from your screen. The download site also has a web trail of related discussions on mouse gestures.

Alas, gestural computing will only really come into play when we have 3d desktops and have evolved input methods to communicate depth."

    interoperatibility with cut-n-paste? (Score:0)

So if moving the cursor left and right performs browser actions, does that mean we can't copy-n-paste text from our broswer window?

This is an issue... However, there's an easy workaround. A slight (5px or so) tweak of a select motion either up,down, or horizontally against the gesture will disengage the gesture recognition. Movements must be at least 20 pixels to be recognized. Also, the next major feature will be disabling gestures that originate in form elements. And, finally, you can set up mouse gestures to work only when a modifier key is engaged.

I'm not a robot like you. I don't like having disks crammed into me... unless they're Oreos, and then only in the mouth. -- Fry
