Clearinghouse For Publishing Online Map Data
posted by Editor on Monday September 17, @11:35PM
Geographic Interfaces The Geography Network is a portal for publishing metadata about Graphical Information Systems (GIS) data and services, enabling geographic information to be shared between data providers, service providers, and users. It is registered as a National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) clearinghouse node. The site can be searched from any browser, but it requires proprietary software from ESRI to publish data. Although it would be preferable to have a completely open alternative for publishing and searching global GIS data, this site provides a pretty impressive list of free maps that can be accessed online right now.
